Author of quiet stories
Welcome. My name is Margot
The Violet Hour is my newest book. Before it came The Folded Letter, Sunday Rooms, and A Name in Pencil. I write about the letters we never send, the rooms we still walk through, and the names we set down once, in pencil.
Writing, for me, began with what I could not say out loud. A folded letter. An afternoon that stayed. A name written in pencil because ink felt too final. I found that love and memory live in those small, unfinished things, and that a novel can hold them without hurrying them away.
These books are for anyone who has ever kept a person close in a quiet room of the mind. You are welcome to stay.
My books
The Violet Hour
The room turns violet, and neither of them speaks. What they hold back in that hour becomes the thing they carry longest.
The Folded Letter
A letter written through one long winter and never posted. Two people still go on living beside the words that were never sent.
Sunday Rooms
The day after the visit, the house still holds it. Cups left out, a chair pulled close, and the quiet that follows people home.
A Name in Pencil
She finds her name in the margin of a book she did not write. The pencil mark is old, and someone kept her there on purpose.
You can buy on
I read The Violet Hour in one evening and then sat in the room after, not ready to turn on a brighter light. What they do not say is the part I am still carrying.
Elena Voss
I knew the letter in The Folded Letter would never be sent, and I still wanted them to post it. I closed the book and left it beside the letters I have not sent either.
Miriam Hale
Sunday Rooms is the day after everyone leaves, and the house feels louder for it. I walked through my own rooms more slowly that night.
Claire Aden
I read every letter
A note you can send
If you would like to write to me, I read every letter. Tell me what you are reading, or which room in a book you have never quite left.
